Facebook Arab world – Statistics Feb 2017

Facebook Arab:

Facebook is the most popular social media platform in the region with around 156 million users by early 2017, up from 115 million a year earlier.

Data has been collected for an average of 12 months, Jan 2015 – Jan 2016.

The penetration rate of Facebook accounts among the Arab population in the region stands at 39%, up from 28% a year earlier.

In general, Arabic is becoming the dominant language on Facebook within the Arab region while many people continue to use multiple languages when posting or reading social media material.

Changes in Numbers of Facebook Users in the Arab States (between 2014 and 2017):
  1. Egypt gained more than 14 million users.
  2. Algeria gained more than 9.3 million users.
  3. Iraq gained more than 7,2 million users.
  4. Saudi gained more than 5,7 million users.
  5. Morocco gained more than 5,3 million users.
  6. UAE gained more than 2,7 million users.
  7. Jordan gained more than 1.6 million users.
  8. Tunisia gained more than 1,4 million users.
  9. Libya gained more than 1.1 million users.
  10. Lebanon gained more than 1 million users.
  11. Qatar gained more than 928 thousand users.
  12. Sudan gained more than 827 thousand users.
  13. Kuwait gained more than 782 thousand users.
  14. Oman gained more than 671 thousand users.
  15. Somalia gained more than 558 thousand users.
  16. Yemen gained more than 421 thousand users.
  17. Palestine gained more than 314 thousand users.
  18. Bahrain gained more than 280 thousand users.
  19. Mauritania gained more than 185 thousand users.
  20. Djibouti gained more than 74 thousand users.
  21. Comoros gained more than 32 thousand users.
  22. Syria,  the number of Facebook users in the country has decreased by around 375 thousand.

 

Facebook Growth and Penetration Rates in the Arab Region:
  1. Egypt, Number of accounts: more than 33 million users. Penetration rate: 37%.
  2. Saudi, Number of accounts: more than 18 million users, Penetration rate: 58%.
  3. Algeria, Number of accounts: more than 16 million users, Penetration rate: 43%.
  4. Iraq, Number of accounts: more than 13 million users, Penetration rate: 40%.
  5. Morocco, Number of accounts: more than 12 million users, Penetration rate: 38%.
  6. UAE, Number of accounts: more than 8 million users, Penetration rate: 94%.
  7. Syria, Number of accounts: more than 6 million users, Penetration rate: 37%.
